Their first date was on Friday, November 8, 2024 in New York City.

Robert and Meredith matched on Bumble a week prior while Meredith was visiting her sister, Caroline, in Alexandria, VA. Meredith saw that sweet smile and Aggie ring in Robert’s profile picture and knew she had to get to know him. Robert couldn’t believe he had just matched with the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen.

Soon after Robert and Meredith began chatting, it became clear that they were not in the same location. Meredith was in Manhattan on First Avenue watching 59,000 marathoners hustle uptown during the NYC Marathon and Robert was unpacking his new house in Alexandria. They both determined that each other’s respective location wasn’t that far away and, plus, they both lived in fun cities.

Conversation came easily and it wasn’t long before they were deciding on a first date. Robert offered to come up to New York and take Meredith out to Blue Hill, a fantastic restaurant in Greenwich Village. He figured at the very least, it’ll be a great meal and opportunity to see friends in New York! At its best, they will have a fun story to tell their grandchildren.

That first date turned into the first weekend of the rest of their lives together. Robert and Meredith traded visits to each other, exploring the best parts of DC and NYC, and getting to spend time with each other’s families. It was only a matter of time until they realized that they wanted to be each other’s family.

In April 2025, while celebrating Robert’s birthday, he asked her to move in with him. Arrangements were made and Meredith moved down to Alexandria during Labor Day weekend. Caroline and Robert still believe it’s the greatest con they’ve ever pulled off!

Engagement Weekend

Robert and Meredith planned a trip to Fort Worth, Texas to visit Robert’s family over President’s Day Weekend. Robert had previously “let slip” that he was proposing later in March, so Meredith wasn’t suspecting a thing.

Robert coordinated a Valentine’s Day double date with his grandparents, Gramma and Pops (or so Meredith thought), with a stop at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Both lovers of art and the American West, Meredith was so excited to see some of Robert’s favorite pieces and hear about his childhood memories visiting the museum with Gramma.

In front of “The Cowboy”, Robert got down on one knee and asked Meredith to marry him. She could not have been more surprised and of course, said yes! Knowing how important this moment was, Robert flew in Meredith’s mother, Camille, and her sister, Caroline. They were anxiously waiting outside the museum with Robert’s parents, Debby and Bill.

Many happy tears later, the surprises just kept coming! Robert planned a fun, family-filled weekend which culminated with Meredith getting her first ever cowboy hat!

Sentimental and joy-filled, just as it should be!
